In our branches in Ajman and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, the Moroccan kaftan House of Fashion has become a symbol of elegance and authenticity and is keen on designs for Moroccan clothing that make wearing it on different occasions in a sophisticated marriage between its originality and its distinct elegance.
The Moroccan Qaftan is a historical costume, and it is an essential component of the customs of Moroccan women at weddings and special occasions, and there is no other option that surpasses it.
The secret of the Qaftan lies in its dignity and arrogance, as it suggests originality, luxury and elegance at the same time, and the designers of the Qaftan were mainly traditional tailors until recently because those who were used by tailors by craftsmen would not have dared to change its fundamentals, from « cuts » to « Embroideries » and decoration. Now, there is a new generation of Moroccan designers who have taken upon themselves the task of developing it to suit all tastes, and in line with the colours and international fashion trends, and line with all segments and tastes of society.
Since 2010, branch of Bait Al-kaftan in Morocco has been under the direction of the designer Mohammed Kamal El Maataoui, his creativity in the Moroccan Qaftan is inspired by everything that surrounds him or falls on his eye, it may be a drawing on the carpets at home, or in a book, or even Najaf, but at the same time he does his best to preserve the special touch that is characterising it, such as the ornate drawings or the roses.
The time to finish one design of Qaftan, as communicated by the designer Mohamed Kamal, takes from a week to 9 months, depending on the piece and the decoration, and fixing jewellery, including dresses and embroidery, and the originality of the detail with gold thread, in addition to the golden “al-safifa” and the golden “Akkad” in the middle that distinguishes the Moroccan Qaftan from other Qaftans, and the belt, made of gold and decorated with precious stones, is called “Madamma” in the Moroccan dialect.
The designer, Mohammed Kamal EL Maataoui, is fond of the Qaftan with all its subtle details and relies in most of his designs on a professional blending of mismatched luxurious fabrics and divergent colour gradations that give the design a distinctive and striking shape.
Moroccan Qaftans
The love of the Moroccan Qaftan by women from different nationalities pushed the house of the Qaftan in the Emirates to show more of the aesthetic of the Moroccan Qaftan and to preserve it.
It is true that some foreign designers indeed resorted to designing pieces that can be considered a kind of Moroccan Qaftan, especially in Ramadan, but they did not rely on its main details such as the siphon and the “Akkad”, as adopted by most Moroccan designers. Therefore, we find that many Gulf women have adopted the authentic Moroccan Qaftan on various occasions because they find in it the comfort and elegance that they are looking for and are distinguished by it.
